Janna Shuman Memorial Scholarship Fund

Many of our clients that go way back with us remember veterinary assistant, Janna Shuman.  She started working at our establishment in her high school days while she attended Palmetto High School.  Janna quickly found that the veterinary field was her true calling in life.  She enrolled in the Veterinary Technology program at Saint Petersburg College to pursue her passion with animals.  Janna's life was tragically shortened in an automobile accident in early 2007.  Needless to say, our lives were completely affected by this beautiful wide-eyed young lady's passing.

In memory of our dear friend and colleague, we asked the Veterinary Technology program at St. Petersburg College to establish the Janna Shuman Memorial Scholarship.  The scholarship will be awarded annually to a student who is enrolled in the Veterinary Technology program at SPC.

Since Janna's death, the memorial fund has given out many scholarships.  The money is raised primarily by the yard sales and donations.  The awards are given to students entering their second year of veterinary technical school at the St. Petersburg College.  Besides a qualifying GPA, the candidates have to submit an essay on what contributions they hope to make to the veterinary field.  Their essays are reviewed by the committee and a recipient is chosen.  The teachers at the school are then contacted regarding the nominees' involvement in school activities and financial need.  Then Janna's family makes the decision on the final recipient. If you would like to make a contribution to the scholarship fund, either by a donation to raise money at our bi-annual yard sale, or a monetary donation, please contact Paula Shuman at the Palmetto Animal Clinic.
